94th birth anniversary of Nadikar Thilakom

Tomorrow, on 1st October Nadikar Thilakom Shivaji Ganeshan celebrates his 94th birthday in heaven. On 1st October 1928 V.Chinnaiya Manrayar Ganesamoorthy, popular by his stage name Shivaji Ganesan, was born in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu. Ganesan was the fourth son of Chinnaiya Manrayar and Rajamani Ammal. He started his acting career at the age of seven soon after joining a touring stage drama company. He joined the company without his father’s consent and this marks his burning desire and passion toward’s acting. Moreover, the kick-off for the transition of little Ganesan to the famous Shivaji Ganeshan was from that stage company. In his early career Ganesan acted under the name V.C Ganesan. The role of Chhatrapati Shivaji, in the stage play ‘Shivaji Kanda Hindu Rajyam‘earned him the monicker ‘Shivaji’. After that, public function under the presidency of social reformer E.V Ramaswamy, the byname Shivaji got conferred on him.
Most importantly, Karunanidhi, the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu proudly once mentioned his best friend and lifelong friend Nadikar Thilakom as the ‘treasure discovered by Pongu Tamils’ and ‘Gandhi-led devotee of Buddha’. K.Kamaraj, another former chief minister of Tamil Nadu once stated that through Portrayal of the Shivaji’s role, Nadikar Thilakom made the whole country proud of having him.
Apart from as an actor, Shivaji had given a try in politics also. In 1981 he became the president of the Janata Dal party invected by Prime Minister V.P Singh. Even though he was a successful actor, as a politician he was unsuccessful.
